Nursery
Welcome to the Nursery Class page.
Hello, I’m Mr Neilson, the class teacher.
In Nursery, we encourage children to be curious, independent, and confident learners. Through play and exploration, they develop social skills, learning how to interact, share, and take turns with their friends. We also focus on communication and language, helping children to express themselves and build their vocabulary. Physical development is an important part of our day, supporting both fine and gross motor skills.
Our mornings begin with self-registration, followed by Dough Disco, and Flipper Flappers. Children then take part in phonics and maths activities before exploring the different areas of our classroom. These spaces allow children to engage in hands-on activities, develop their creativity, and follow their own interests, alongside occasional adult-led sessions.
Children enjoy a healthy snack and drink mid-morning, with adults supervising to ensure a calm, safe environment. Just before lunch, we come together for circle time, which helps children listen attentively, develop their speaking skills, and grow their confidence in using language.
Lunch is served in the hall, after which children spend time playing outside with their peers, continuing their learning through physical activity and social interaction.
In the afternoons, we often start with a counting song or nursery rhyme before moving on to topic based learning that builds wider knowledge and skills. We finish the day with a story on the carpet, giving children time to relax and reflect.
PE takes place on Tuesdays and is led by a specialist coach, who helps children develop skills in a particular sport or activity. On Thursdays, PE is teacher-led, focusing on developing gross motor skills, coordination, and overall physical confidence, helping children be ready for Reception.
On Friday afternoons, Nursery children enjoy Forest School, where they can explore the outdoors, get creative with natural materials, discover the wonders of plants and little creatures, and have fun running, climbing, and rolling down the hills!
Thank you.
