Nursery

Welcome to the Nursery Class page.

Hello, I'm Miss O'Neill, the class teacher.
In Nursery we plan activities to develop the children’s independent and exploration skills, as well as learning how to play and interact with other children. Alongside this we are enhancing the children’s communication and language skills, learning how to share and take turns. Through physical development we are developing the children gross and fine motor skills.
The morning begins with self-registration and Dough Disco. This leads in to flipper flappers and Squiggles whilst you Wiggle. After this the children learn phonics/maths followed by exploring and learning in various areas in our provision. This allows all children to explore the setting where the children engage in activities to develop their inner unique child; these include playing, creating and learning. They may also take part in adult focused activities.
The Nursery children enjoy a healthy snack and drinks during the morning which is always supervised by an adult.
Before lunch, the children join in with  circle time to help develop the children’s listening, vocabulary and speaking skills.
Lunch is served in the hall and then the children play games outside in the same environment with their peers so their learning continues.
The afternoon starts with a counting song or nursery rhyme before starting topic related learning. This is an opportunity to develop wider skills and the day finishes with a story on the carpet.
On a Monday & Thursday Nursery have Physical Education. One physical development session is led by coaches and Class Teacher and the second is Class teacher led. These lessons make sure children are physically ready for Reception.
On Friday afternoons Nursery will attend Forest School where they get to explore the outdoor environment, creating with natural objects, look for minibeasts and roll down the hills.
Thank you!
